It is hard to believe that the Queen herself, Beyoncé, struggled against weight gain, but this is exactly what happened after the birth of her twins, Rumi and Sir, in 2017. Beyoncé has just released a new video, called Beyoncé: 22 Days Nutrition, in which she promotes vegan food as a way to lose weight and achieve greater health and wellness. Beyoncé and Jay-Z initially went vegan for the 44 days leading up to her iconic 2018 Coachella performance, but they soon because hooked on plant-based dishes. In the opening scene of 22 Days Nutrition, the singer can be seen standing on the scale and telling fans, "Good morning, it's 5am, and this is day one of rehearsals for Coachella. Every woman's nightmare – this is my weight, 175 lbs. Long way to go." At that moment in her life, she says: "I felt that my body was not mine."

Nothing Comes Easy, Not Even to Celebrities

Many fans think that their favorite celebrities have it easy, since they can count on the help of top nutritionists and chefs to achieve optimal health and fitness. Beyoncé's video challenges this way of thinking, since it shows that you may have all the help in the world, but achieving results ultimately depends on hard work and a combination of diet and exercise. Even people on far smaller budgets than Bey and Jay can dine out at their favorite establishments on occasion, and whip up simple plant-based dishes at home. Vegan and plant-based dishes don't have to be difficult to prepare or require strange ingredients. On a busy day, sautée your favorite green beans with garlic and small pieces of vegan bacon or meat-free sausages and you're onto a winning combination.

    Making It Easy

Beyoncé and Jay-Z are passionate about the idea of food that is as clean and unprocessed as possible. Considering the fact that they work 10-to-12-hour days, natural foods give them the energy and stamina they need to last all day. The 22 Days Nutrition program was actually created by Beyoncé's friend, trainer, exercise physiologist, and New York Times best-selling author, Marco Borges. When trying to help Beyoncé shed her baby weight, Borges knew that his plan would be the perfect fit for her, since she and Jay worked long hours and needed the extra lift that plant-based nutrition could provide.

    Shining at Coachella

When fans saw Beyoncé walk onstage in her bright fuschia top and Daisy Dukes at her stellar Coachella performance, it was difficult to fully understand how much work had been invested in her show. Beyoncé is an A-lister who never disappoints, and her dedication to her craft is palpable- as much in the show she puts on as in the work she invests in her health and fitness. A true star makes it seem easy while overcoming many hurdles that are usually left unshared.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z promote veganism, but do not lead a completely meat-free lifestyle. 22 Days Nutrition is plant-based, but according to Marco Borges, Beyoncé skips meat on Mondays, while Jay-Z consumes two plant-based meals a day. The idea is to consume as much healthy, living, seasonal food as possible, and to shun foods that have been altered. As Borges reminds us, Twizzlers may be a vegan snack, but it is not plant-based. The idea is to make everything you eat count towards making you a healthier and happier person.
