Online dating is just for mere mortals . . . the average Joe on the street who cannot find a partner. Right? Think again, because even celebrities are involved in the dating game online.

Some of the most famous or well-known celebrities around the world have turned to online dating in attempt to find love. In fact, your mind will be blown by just how famous these stars actually are. You will be amazed that some of these celebs have been dating online.

From Katy Perry, Lindsay Lohan, Demi Lovato and Zac Efron in the US, to Adele and Katie Price (or Jordan if you remember her by her modelling name) across the pond in the UK, some seriously famous celebs have used a variety of dating sites and apps in the search for partners for relationships and to find the missing piece of the jigsaw in their love lives.

Which celebrities use online dating

One of the biggest celebrity to actually confirm she uses dating apps is Lovato, who revealed she uses Raya to find both women and men online during her television documentary Simply Complicated.

Hilary Duff has been on a blind date with a Tinder meet, but Efron's success was non-existent with fellow users presuming his profile was fake when he tried the same dating app. Perry has also tried the swiping left and right without any real relationship success, while Britney Spears and UFC star Ronda Rousey have also dabbled with it.

Things were even worse for Lohan, however, who was matched with her brother Mike when she turned to online dating.

Chelsea Handler, meanwhile, is not backwards in coming forwards. The chat show host and comedian revealed in one interview that she uses dating apps to find hookups when she travels the world for work.

Price decided to give Huggle a go after yet another relationship break up, while Adele – one of the world's biggest music artists – tried online dating apps but had little success without posting her picture.

But no one had quite the result that American actress Amy Schumer did, because she is said to have managed to meet her now ex-boyfriend Ben Hanisch while using the Raya dating app. Ultimately, it didn't last, though.

Why do celebrities need to date online

You would think that stars of the movie screens and television, models or singers would have no need to turn to online dating.

With agents and fixers to take care of their every need, fans who would dream of enjoying a date, and regular industry parties and events to attend, you would think that the opportunity to meet fellow singles would be widespread.

That might be the case for the majority of household names who slip from relationship to relationship and fill the column inches of newspapers and keep gossip websites in news. But it hasn't been the case for some of the celebrities discussed above.

They have turned to this site and many others like it to connect with singles from everyday life and presumably to enjoy some anonymity that a profile with a username allows and search for relationships. Others, like Handler, have done so for a quick hookup.

Life in the public eye and being permanently in the spotlight with the pressures of the media can't be enjoyable. Having to maintain a façade of just what is expected of you, means these celebrities can't be their natural selves.

On a dating app, celebrities like Lohan or Lovato, for example, can enjoy being themselves. No one knows who they are, no one is false around them it gives celebrities like that pair the opportunity to chat and get to know singles like "normal" folk do. Who could deny them that and look down on them for using dating apps?
