Golf, as ANY player will attest, is a very compelling pastime. Thus it shouldn't come as a surprise that many famous people, especially those with a lot of downtimes, are avid players. Former footballers, cricketers, snooker players, and boxers often make cameo appearances at the Pro-Ams held by the European Tour on the eve before tournaments.
You might also see a famous person from television or the movies, a model, a disc jockey, or perhaps a rock band. With the aid of Golfholidaysdirect, we look at only 12 famous people who share our enthusiasm for this pastime.
Alice Cooper
Cooper has a substance abuse problem in addition to his alcoholism. The vast majority of persons with these problems seek help from therapists. The rock artist admitted that he had an addictive nature and sought out a new addiction to combat his alcoholism. Because of this, he started playing golf. He claims to have played 300 times last year alone. He eventually lowered his handicap to four after all that work.
Bill Murray
In the film Caddyshack, in which he co-starred, Murray played the role of groundskeeper Carl Spackler. As anyone who has seen him play at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am can attest, Murray is a pretty keen golfer in real life, but he seems to spend much of his time playing up to the camera. And despite having a handicap of eight, he is, in all honesty, not very good.
Celine Dion
The Canadian singer is such an avid golfer that she owns her course. No, seriously. Private golfing is available at her house. After the Australian's victory at the Kraft Nabisco, she leaped into a pond with Karrie Webb. What role Dion played in Webb's victory is still unclear.
Snoop Dogg
Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., has a checkered past that includes gang membership and a stint in prison for cocaine use. The hip-hop musician is rumored to have a handicap of 18, even though he does not seem like your normal club golfer. He has sold millions of records, so he can easily afford to entertain himself.
Niall Horan
Horan first gained prominence while performing with One Direction, formerly the most popular boy band in the world. They gained fame and fortune after being discovered by adolescent females worldwide and selling millions of records after appearing on The X Factor. Horan spent his free time playing golf, while the rest of One Direction, like many modern music stars, drank and used drugs. He has started his own company, Modest Golf Management, and caddied for Rory McIlroy at the Par 3 challenge at the 2017 Masters.
Georgie Bingham
The broadcaster took up golf after seeing Seve Ballesteros play on television. When she was younger, she hit a drive measured at 300 yards since she and her friends were convinced no one else would believe her. What about the best golfer she's ever played with? "Anton Du Beke," she says. He's the most handsome golfer in the world. And there's an element of dance to the golf swing. Her index is 18.
Brian McFadden
The ex-Westlife member is the first to acknowledge that, during the height of his stardom, he lived a reckless lifestyle and developed a poker addiction.
McFadden's fixation shifted until he discovered golf. He is a regular on the pro-am circuit and plays off a handicap of 12.
Justin Timberlake
Timberlake is arguably the most famous musician in the world. His records have sold extremely well, and his concerts consistently draw crowds. He is also known as a virtuous music industry member because of his commitment to a healthy lifestyle and his passion for charitable fundraising. His father introduced him to golf when he was a small lad, and he rapidly demonstrated a natural talent for the sport. He now plays off five and even has his tournament on the PGA Tour, the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, which raises millions of dollars to aid sick children. How cool is that?
Samuel L Jackson
While he's not killing people on the big screen, Jackson is probably on the golf course. He is such a fan that he has a provision added to his film contracts guaranteeing him time off to play the game. At least twice a week, Jackson says he must be allowed to play. To play golf, "they usually transfer me to a course," or "I usually join a club." His handicap is six. He plays golf daily in his spare time, sometimes for as many as 27 holes.
Chris Evans
Broadcaster Chris Evans' wife Natasha is a professional golfer, which gives him something of an advantage. He came late to the game and quickly became hooked; he has even presented a golf-themed TV series. His handicap is 10. Yet, Evans's golf career has not been without its share of bumps. He played in the 2011 Dunhill Links Championship with Nick Dougherty at Carnoustie, Kingsbarns, and St. Andrews. The pair won with a 40-under-par total over 72 holes. It caused a stir, and Evans was barred from attending the conference again.
Kenny G
Kenneth Gorelick, or Kenny G., is a stage name he uses. He is widely regarded as one of the best saxophonists in the world, with record sales in the tens of millions. He picked up the clubs again in his forties after having put them down as a young man to focus on his music career. How many years were lost? What he had long suspected-that he possessed a true and natural knack for the game-was swiftly confirmed for him. He once shot a 67 at Riviera, bringing his career total to zero throughout a round.
Mark Wahlberg
Having starred in several successful films, Wahlberg has become one of Hollywood's hottest commodities. Wahlberg only has a little time to indulge his passion for golf between his extensive workout routines and long days on set. But he always seems to find a way, and he was filming the third Transformers movie in sunny Michigan in 2015. At 3:30 in the morning, he would hit the gym for an hour before heading to either Knollwood Country Club, Plum Hollow, or Detroit Golf Club for an early morning round. Now that is what you call dedication.
